From January 1 to September 30, 2024, Vietnam exported a total of 200,894 tons of various types of pepper, including 177,953 tons of black pepper and 22,941 tons of white pepper. The total export value reached 991.0 million USD, with black pepper accounting for 781.9 million USD and white pepper for 142.1 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2023, the export volume decreased by 1.7%, but the export value surged by 46.1%.

The average export price of black pepper over the 9-month period was 4,852 USD/ton, and for white pepper, it was 6,461 USD/ton, marking increases of 40.9% for black pepper and 30.4% for white pepper compared to the same period last year.

Asia remains the largest export market for Vietnamese pepper, accounting for 37.8% of total exports with 75,859 tons, although this represents a 33.7% decline, primarily due to decreased exports to China. Some leading export markets in Asia include:

  • UAE: 13,159 tons, up by 41.1%
  • India: 9,284 tons, up by 0.5%
  • China: 8,905 tons, down by 84.1%
  • Philippines: 6,156 tons, up by 2.3%
  • South Korea: 5,710 tons, up by 59.0%
  • Pakistan: 4,992 tons, up by 55.8%

Exports to the Americas reached 62,634 tons, an increase of 49.6%, with the United States being Vietnam’s largest export market for pepper at 57,289 tons, accounting for 28.5% of the market share and marking a 53.1% rise compared to last year.

Exports to European markets also saw strong growth of 33.6%, reaching 50,769 tons. The leading European markets include:

  • Germany: 12,777 tons, up by 87.1%
  • Netherlands: 8,065 tons, up by 35.4%
  • Russia: 5,153 tons, up by 26.8%
  • UK: 4,340 tons, up by 17.8%
  • Turkey: 3,853 tons, up by 10.2%

The African region accounted for 5.8% of the market share, with an increase of 14.6% compared to the same period in 2023, totaling 11,632 tons. Egypt and South Africa were the two main export markets, with 4,729 tons and 2,109 tons, marking increases of 41.0% and 19.8%, respectively.
