As of the end of August, Vietnam has exported 183,756 tons of various types of pepper, including 162,721 tons of black pepper and 21,035 tons of white pepper. The total export turnover reached USD 881.2 million, with black pepper accounting for USD 754.1 million and white pepper for USD 127.1 million. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume decreased by 2.1%, but the export turnover increased significantly by 43.0%. The average export price for black pepper over the 8 months was USD 4,712 per ton, and for white pepper, it was USD 6,326 per ton, representing an increase of USD 1,270 for black pepper and USD 1,371 for white pepper compared to the same period last year.
In the first 8 months of 2024, exports to the United States reached 51,823 tons, almost matching the total export volume for the entire year of 2023 (54,271 tons). This represents a 54.3% increase compared to the same period last year, capturing a 28.2% market share. Other key markets include Germany with 12,021 tons, up 96.3%; UAE with 11,744 tons, up 29.6%; India with 9,086 tons, up 10.2%; China with 8,388 tons, down 84.4%; and the Netherlands with 7,503 tons, up 35.9%.

As of the end of August, Vietnam imported 21,348 tons of pepper, including 18,657 tons of black pepper and 2,691 tons of white pepper, with a total import value of 88.4 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, the import volume increased by 12.3%. Vietnam primarily imported from Brazil (8,058 tons, down 30.5%), Cambodia (6,635 tons, up 96.1%), and Indonesia (4,530 tons, up 94.6%).
